Pesticide for my Organic Garden

Went out tonight and bought the cheapest box of box wine I could find, $8.25 for 5 liters at the class 6.  I read online that wine made a good pesticide so since my tomato plants look like they are getting there leaves eaten by something I thought I’d give it a shot.  I’ll follow up soon to tell how it’s going.

Worm farmin’ update

The worm farmin’ went well, I took all my worms and that great dirt and put it in the corner of my back yard garden I still compost there and it is working pretty good.  I think when it gets closer to winter I’ll bring the worms back inside or maybe get some more.  But I think I’ll but a professional worm bin this year cause I couldn’t seam to get the air flow right in my home made one, but I would still rate the project as a success.

Worm Farmin’ update

Well yesterday the worms came in the mail, I thought 2000 worms would of came in a bigger box but we’ll see how it goes. Made the container, put the worms in and gave them a little bread to get them started so we’ll se how it goes. If what I’ve read is true my four pounds of worms should be able to eat there weight in kitchen scraps every day, and reproduce about once a month, to we’ll see.

Worm Farmin’

A couple months ago I tried my luck at making a worm bin for kitchen scrap compost, I didn’t do very well, admittedly I didn’t follow the instructions very well and instead of using red wigglers like everyone recommends I just used some night crawlers I got a Wal-mart.  But don’t worry I’m trying again, I just ordered some red wigglers from Uncle Jim and am going to start over when they get here, I’ll follow the instructions this time.  Here is a Cheap and Easy worm bin plan.

Hot water heater 1.1 update

well the piping system I used didn’t work very well, I think the idea behind it is good, I just didn’t do a very good job putting it together.  Had to much tube with to many turns in it and it didn’t allow the water to flow.  Plus I didn’t seal my bottle and it leaked.  But the up side is that during the hour we were at church 11:30-12:00 the outside temp was 40 deg and the air temp inside the oven got up over 180 deg.  I’m going to try putting the water bottle inside the oven to see what temp it can get up to.

Hot water heater 1.1

The first test worked pretty well, so I’m adding a little to it today.  Lined the inside of the casserole dish with some pieces of the car sun shield I cut up.  Got some small plastic tubing and ran through the dish and attacked the tubing to a mountin dew bottle.  Covered the dew bottle with pipe insulation and but a piece of polycarb roofing on top of the casserole dish instead of the plastic it came with.  Put it in the van last night so I’ll have to see how it’s doing this morning when the sun comes up.

Our first thermal oven

Well put my first attempt at a solar oven together this afternoon.  Made it out of a throw away tin foil casserole dish, a cheep thermometer, and a sun shield for our van.  Right now I’m just trying to make something that can reflect the sun and make the thermometer go up.  I put it in our van window,  it is late in the day (2:30pm central) 23 Feb 08.  it’s 38 deg F and overcast so if it heats up this afternoon that will be an accomplishment.
